Marine remanufactured engines are warranted to the original purchaser to be free of defective parts and workmanship for 2 years/unlimited hours ( 1 year/ unlimited hours for commercial vessels). This warranty begins on the date of original retail delivery or original use, whichever occurs first. Repairs or replacements under warranty will NOT extend the warranty coverage. No benefits or remedies are available under this limited warranty while the invoice for the unit or related services remains outstanding. This warranty is NOT transferable.

If any part of a remanufactured engine assembly fails in normal use because of defective parts or workmanship performed by the remanufacturer and is returned to the remanufacturer, then it will be repaired or the assembly replaced. The alleged defective part of the assembly MUST be returned to the distributor, at your cost (properly supported by completed claim forms and receipts), for inspection and credit consideration in order for the replacement coverage to be applicable.

ALL WARRANTY REPLACEMENTS AND FIELD REPAIRS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED, AND A REFERENCE NUMBER MUST BE OBTAINED BEFORE ANY SERVICE IS PERFORMED.

Labor:

Replacement: Labor will be paid according to flat rate time at your current shop labor rate not exceeding $45.00 per hour. Maximum labor for marine engine replacement is $550.00.

Field Repairs: Parts (supplied by the remanufacturer or by the installer at cost) plus labor based on flat rate time at your current shop labor rate not exceeding $45.00 per hour. Maximum time/labor allowance for field repair shall not exceed replacement time/labor amount of $550.00.

WARRANTY COVERS ONLY DEFECTIVE MATERIAL INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY OR DEFECTIVE LABOR PERFORMED BY THE FACTORY.

INSTALLER RESPONSIBILITIES:

It is the responsibility of the installer or installer's organization to:

1. Explain warranty coverage and service procedures to the vessel owner.

2. Assure the Owner's Manual is given to vessel owner.

3. Diagnose all complaints to determine the cause. If cause is not due to material or Labor furnished by the factory, request should not be submitted.

OWNER RESPONSIBILITIES:

To insure long engine life and trouble free performance, the engine must be properly maintained. This includes, but is not limited to:

1. Complete and mail the Certificate of Installation card to the remanufacturer. Failure to complete and return the certificate will limit coverage to 90 days.

2. Oil and filter change after initial 10 hours. Complete and return 10 hour Check-up Card to remanufacturer. Then, regular oil and filter changes each 50 hours or once per season, whichever occurs first.

3. Regular check of all fluid levels throughout the engine. Engine oil must be at a safe level regardless of engine condition. Damage caused by running the engine without adequate oil in the crankcase is not covered under the warranty.

4. Tune-up, belt, filter and hose replacement at necessary intervals or whenever substandard performance is experienced.

5. Anti-freeze/coolant protection to a minimum 50:50 mixture (-34°F). Cooling system must operate at normal temperature. Thermostat, water pump, leaks and corrosion are the responsibility of the vessel owner. Freezing or low coolant level damage is not covered under this warranty.

NOTE: We recommend you keep all engine installation and service records with the Owner's Manual. You will be required to provide records showing proof of maintenance in the event a customer service and/or warranty situation arises.

ITEMS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY:

1. Fluids: Warranty repairs or replacements occuring in the first 10 hours of engine service will include a maximum fluid and filter allowance of $25.00. After that time, they become a regular maintenance item, and are not covered under warranty.

2. Gaskets:

A - Gasket kits included with engines are complementary. They may not always include every gasket required for installation; in these cases the gaskets must be purchased locally at the owner's or installer's expense.

B - Damaged or incorrect gasket sets will be replaced at time of installation only.

C - After installation, gaskets are not covered under warranty.

3. Damage Due to Alterations, Misuse, or Accidents: Repairs required as a result of fire, accidents, abuse, negligence or objects striking the engine, misuse of the engine such as overloading, racing, etc.. Improper adjustments, modification, tampering, disconnection, alteration (changing or adding to the engine), modifying the exhaust system to reduce exhaust backpressure and increase performance, adjustments to components not complying with Manufacturer's specifications. Subjecting engine to operations causing greater than normal wear, or used for any purposes for which it was not originally designed, or to engine failures due to improper installation by a party other than Manufacturer, or improper units or parts on negine that were not supplied by Manufacturer and any other causes as herein specified.

4. Damage From the Environment: Chemicals, salt, hail windstorms, lightening, floods, etc. and other acts of God

5. Damage Due to Improper Maintenance: Repairs required due to lack of, or improper maintenance or failure to use recommended fuel, oil, lubricants, etc.

6. Routine Maintenance Expenses: Routine regularly required maintenance such as lubrication and changing filters, engine tune-up and replacing belt, hoses, or any fluids, or any other normal maintenance service all vessels require.

7. Extra Expenses: This warranty does not cover incidental or consequential damages such as loss of use of the vessel due to engine failure, towing charges, or other substitute transportation, loss of time, inconvenience, expense for gasoline, telephone, telegram or facsimile charges, travel or lodging, loss or damage to personal property, commercial loss, loss of revenue or other matter not specifically included. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation or exclusions may not apply to you.

8. Holes Burned in Pistons: Caused by detonation. This type of failure is very easy to identify by the melted look on the head of the piston and possibly a hole burned through the top or down the side of the piston. Broken ring lands can also be caused by detonation or pre-ignition.

9. Valve Head Breaking Off: Applies where head is not furnished by the factory. There are many causes for this, such as operating at high speeds, improper valve spring tension, high cylinder head temperature, improper fuel, and others.

10. Excessive Operating Temperatures: A properly remanufactured engine will usually, and should, operate at a slightly higher temperature than the old engine, due to closer bearing and piston clearances. Excessive temperature can be injurious to engine life. There are many causes for excessive engine temperature over which the factory has no control, such as; condition of cooling system, heat risers, water pump belt, carburetor and fuel injection mixtures, ignition timing, collapsed or closed cooling hoses, non purging of water system, defective thermostats or thermostats not installed properly, or engine being operated without thermostats.

11. Oil Consumption: NOTE: all oil consumption concerns are subject to consumption test by engine installer. Some oil consumption can usually be expected for the first 30 hours, until piston rings seat in properly. There are many causes for oil consumption besides piston rings, such as: defective PCV system; breather pipe or cap clogged; defective diaphragm in fuel pump; clogged oil filter; too high an oil level in crankcase; faulty carburetor or fuel injection system; leaky intake manifold or manifold gasket; or too light grade of oil used.

12. Burned Out Bearings: Caused by lack of lubrication. This type of failure can be easily identified by the pulled and scored surfaces of the bearings that did not completely burn out, or if all the bearings are burned out. Premature bearing failure can also be caused by a worn out oil pump, dirty pickup screen or oil cooler, or non priming of system at startup.

13. Scored Cylinder and Pistons: Caused by overheating. This type of failure can usually be identified by the fact that more than one piston is damaged and by the discoloration of the pistons and cylinder walls. In some cases the engine has been run so hot that the cam bearings or heat tabs have melted or the outside paint has been burned black. A heat tab is installed on all engines. If the tab is melted or missing, labor claims may be denied.

14. Broken Pistons: When caused by bolts, lock washers, etc. or pieces of broken rings from the previous engine that have been left in the intake manifold or cylinder heads. These pieces of foreign material are sucked into the combustion chambers after the engine is started and can severely damage the pistons.

15. Camshaft failure: Caused by the use of old lifters in short blocks. All longblocks come with new lifters installed.

16. Gas Wash: Caused by too much gasoline (a rich air-fuel mixture) entering the combustion chambers resulting in glazed cylinder walls and premature bearing wear (due to gas diluted oil). This is a result of a defective carburetor or fuel injection system. This may also cause oil consumption and/or galled pistons.

17. Broken Pistons and Bent Rods: Caused by a hydraulic lock. This type of failure can be identified by the bent rod with no physical marks on the rod indicating something hit the rod to bend it and the rod will also have the appearance of having buckled under pressure rather than just plain bending. Hydraulic lock is caused by a small amount of liquid in the combustion chamber and the liquid will not compress. When the engine is started, the force of the crankshaft, combined with the inertia of the flywheel starter will create enough power to bend the rod. The liquid could come from coolant leaking into the combustion chamber from defective heat risers or manifolds, flooding, or a defective or leaking carburetor or fuel injection system allowing gas to drain into the intake manifold and be sucked into a cylinder when the engine is first started.

18. Rings Worn Out Prematurely: Caused by faulty carburetor, malfunction of fuel injection system or plugged air cleaner causing excessive amounts of gas to be induced into the combustion chamber washing the oil from the rings, or a defective air cleaner that allows dirt and dust to enter the combustion chamber. This type of failure can be identified by the excessive wear on the cylinder walls and on the rings.

19. Premature Bearing Failure due to the use of abrasive grinding discs. If an abrasive grinding disc is used to clean gasket material from a partially assembled engine, airborne grit and debris may enter the engine through an exposed cavity. That grit may then enter the engine's oil system and cause premature engine damage. The use of these pads has been discouraged by General Motors, Chrysler and Ford.
